Give towards efforts to serve the marginalized and racial injustices.
In the spirit of giving to causes that help those who experience the realities of inequity and/or discrimination, we want to encourage you to give to one of the following entities. We know that there are many more organizations out there as well. But we picked these two to direct people towards. One is a local organization and the other is a Nationally based organization. MIT Cru will match your giving 1:1.
MIT Cru Matching Gift form - fill this out after you give, attach the receipt, and we will do a 1:1 Match to the Emmanuel Gospel Center (EGC) fundraiser. Note: you don’t have to give to the EGC for us to match it. We are just donating to one local organization with whom we have relationship.
Emmanuel Gospel Center - They are local to Boston and have been helping with a variety of efforts to reach and bless underserved and marginalize people in the Boston area. Boston Cru partners with them. They are deeply embedding in the Boston community, know the city, and are centered around Jesus. They are currently running a fundraiser to support 3 organizations operating in Boston* (See that list below). During this critical moment in time they are helping Christian leaders who are leveraging healthy and needed change in response to racial justice and COVID-19. EGC is thankful to have the support of Cru in Boston as they navigate serving urban communities together. 100% of funds given for this fundraiser will go directly to these 3 organizations.
Give here. There is a Green donate button in the upper right hand corner (or you can bid on the silent auction). Their goal is to raise $5000 by June 20th. But you can give after that too.
Equal Justice Initiative - https://www.eji.org - this is the organization run by Bryan Stevenson (The film Just Mercy is based around his life and how we started the Equal Justice Initiative) Their efforts focus on ending mass incarceration and excessive punishment in the United States, challenging racial and economic injustice, and protecting the basic human rights for the most vulnerable people in American society. Give here.
Prison Fellowship - https://www.prisonfellowship.org/ - Serving prisoners, helping them find Christ, and restoring their humanity and helping them face the hardships of prison and life once they get out. They also advocate for Justice Reform. Give here.
*More about what/who the Emmanuel Gospel Center is supporting in their fundraiser.
2. The Black Ministerial Alliance of Greater Boston (BMA)
Started as an interdenominational group with 20 clergy during the 1960’s Civil Rights movement, the BMA seeks to provide spiritual nurture to clergy, advocacy and program services for the larger Black community. All the auction donations to this organization will be donated to their “Bridge of Hope Fund”, which supports Black churches and their social ministries to underserved communities.
2. Massachusetts Council of Churches (MCC)
Through an unwavering belief in One Church, a phrase that deems all parts of the Body of Christ as necessary, the MCC created the “One Church Fund” to provide “financial, practical and relational support to churches doing essential ministry in communities which have borne the brunt of systemic inequities since long before the COVID-19.” All funds raised will support programs that prioritize immigrant, Black, poor, unhoused, and unaffiliated churches.
3. Agencia ALPHA (a social ministry of Congregacion Leon de Juda)
Founded in 2002 by two immigrant women from Guatemala, the mission driving Agenica ALPHA is to “integrate immigrants into the social, political, and economic fabric of society and improve our quality of life in the United States." Since the pandemic struck, ALPHA has been very involved in helping to meet the basic needs of Latino immigrants (especially undocumented families which were not eligible for stimulus funds) and making follow-up wellness calls to the families.
